Starting a career as software developer and working on e-governance projects, GIS, Implementing cryptographic frameworks, PKI infrastructure and doing geeky stuffs, coding, deriving algorithms, digging into complex database queries, troubleshooting then being an entrepreneur and journey into the core of Internet is like a roller coaster ride.
Internet for me was set of protocols TCP/IP, BGP, DNS, set of hardwares – routers, switches, identifiers – IP addresses, MAC addresses, Domain Names and everything that was needed to build a solution around it. It was enough to troubleshoot any problem or implement something in our development and production environments, working with socket programming RMI, CORBA, it was all about technology.
Suddenly one day, One requirement of testing a project in IPv6 networks has bring me to IPv6 workshop of ISOC Kolkata Chapter and its activities. I had my first encounter with human face of Internet. ISOC Fellowship to attend Global INET 2012 has redefined the concept of Internet within me. A bottom up world where a user can bring the change and is a key stakeholder, like me.
It was in the year 2014, when Anupam Agrawal, Chair ISOC Kolkata came with a proposal to implement L root instance in Kolkata, our first core Internet infrastructure implementation, it has given all good reasons to explore more. It resulted in bringing another root instance J in Kolkata and now we have implemented India’s first community driven IXP, IIFON IX Kolkata.
